A country can have a history of resisting colonization while still actively participating in the colonization of other countries/nations!

It can be doing both those things at the same time OR it can have periods of both in its history OR some combination!

It can have parts of its population actively engage in colonialism against other parts of said population! (Witness: the ongoing struggle of Metis people against the Canadian state for our rights, to name JUST ONE example).

The point is that being able to point to a history of being oppressed

is not a magic get-out-of-perpetuating-oppression-free card
